Freemasons in Knutsford did not have a purpose built Masonic Hall of their own until the late 1960s.
The land and buildings which formed the Hall were donated by the Leicester-Warren family and consisted of an old traditional Cheshire farm ‘shippon’.
This original shippon today forms the actual Lodge room itself. The dining room, bar and other areas have been added over the years. A great deal of the work was done by the Freemasons of Knutsford themselves including many weekends sacrificed to face off the bricks used in the construction of the dining room.
The Bar is named after Hubert Statter, himself a distinguished Knutsford Mason who devoted a considerable amount of his time over the last thirty-six years to the building of Leicester-Warren Hall as it appears today.
The distinctive tip-up seats in the Lodge room came from the old Knutsford Cinema and the wall cladding behind the Master's chair is made from the cut-outs produced in the manufacture of television cases in the 1960s.
Before the dining room was completed a number of Lodges retired to the town after the Lodge meeting and reconvened for refreshment at various public houses, including the Angel Hotel, another historic Knutsford Masonic venue.
Today, Leicester-Warren Hall plays host not only to Masonic Lodge meetings and Masonic Social functions but also Bridge Clubs, The Rex Club, The Lions, Probus as well as a venue for private parties of all types.
Masonic activity in Knutsford involves not only Lodge meetings themselves but associated functions organised by the Knutsford Masonic Division of The Province of Cheshire. These include lunches, an annual band concert, bowls competitions and a summer ball.
An undoubted legacy of the De Tableys and Leicester-Warrens since the 1800s is a rich heritage of Freemasonry in Knutsford evidenced by the strong and thriving Masonic centre at Leicester-Warren Hall in the 21st Century.
